How To Create An Elegant Bedroom

by Jayden Fisher

Whether you are a busy person who works outside of the home or whether you're a stay-at-home-mom, it's great to know that you can retreat into your bedroom area for some peace and quiet. If you are wanting to establish a feeling of elegance in the room, here are some ideas that might inspire you to create something unique and lovely.

  • The Floors - Of course, carpet is one good choice. It is affordable and there are many colors from which to make a selection. However, carpet also stains and can be hard to maintain. Hardwood floors would be beautiful in an elegant bedroom. Of course, after time they will have to be refinished to get rid of scratches and dents. One very good choice would be marble. Besides being really gorgeous, it is a practical choice. It's easy to install, easy to clean and it will last for a very long time. Have you heard of crema marfil marble? The phrase crema marfil means "ivory cream" in Spanish. A cream colored marble floor would go with any colors you select for your home decor.
  • The Walls - Wallpaper would be one excellent choice for an elegant bedroom, especially if you select a pattern that incorporates gold into the design. Another idea is to hire an artisan to paint a mural on at least one wall, or do do faux painting that will give the walls the appearance of the marble. A really impressive touch would be to have a fireplace in your room that incorporates marble as the mantel top. That would be especially stunning if you have chosen marble for your floors.
  • The Decor - If you want bold elegance, select jewel-tones like red, turquoise, green or blue for your bedspread. For a more mellow feeling of elegance, soft colors would be perfect. To maintain the elegant formality you desire, place paintings and photographs in heavy gold frames. A crystal or a brass chandelier would lend elegance to your bedroom. Sconces to match the chandelier would add soft lighting to the room. An indoor fountain made from marble would definitely add drama to the room. Having an indoor fountain wouldn't just be pretty, the water would also be soothing, thus adding to the feeling of relaxation in your bedroom retreat.

If you don't feel confident in decorating your bedroom yourself, remember that interior designers will incorporate your ideas to make your bedroom look like something in a decorator's magazine.
